10:44 am	Theatre notes You're tagged! Do write your own theater notes. LAST SHOW ADDED TO YOUR RESUME: Mikado was the last show I added to my 'performance biography' under "shows I have been in" (sorta like a resume I guess,) but I also added Grand Duke under "Future shows!!" LAST SHOW YOU AUDITIONED FOR: Ummm.........White Horse Inn with Savoy Singers. Didn't get the part though, on account that I would be 7 months pregnant by the time of the show! (But Robert is worth it!) Was in the chorus though. DID YOU GET IT: See above! LAST SONG YOU USED AT AN AUDITION: Flippin eck I can't remember........last 'singing audition' was for Iolanthe so was probably either "in vain to us you plead" or "For riches and rank I do not long". FAVORITE MUSICAL(s): G&S aside...........HEATHCLIFF, HEATHCLIFF and........oh........HEATHCLIFF!!! (I just love the vid so much and think Sir Cliff should either do it again or they should release ameteur rights so I can do it!!) FAVORITE PLAY: Don't have one!..........Any show by Eastern Angles has to go top of the list though! FAVORITE ROLE YOU'VE PLAYED, AND FROM WHAT SHOW: Haven't got a fave but loved playing "Mrs Hudson" in a church production of "Sherlock Holmes and the case of the dying detective!" I was the youngest cast member (was about 13 and the next youngest was about 35) playing the oldest character (about 60) and loads of people didn't recognise me and thought I really was an old woman!! ROCK ON!! FAVORITE ROLE OVERALL THAT YOU WOULD LOVE TO PLAY: Mad Margaret, Katisa, Ruth........heck any G&S role (including most of the male ones!). Catherine Earnshaw/Linton in Heathcliff. Oh and Lady Macbeth! THE ROLE THAT GOT AWAY: Too many! :( SUPERSTITION: Having to say "Oh cr*p" before going onstage for opening nights! YOUR GOAL IN SHOW BUSINESS: To be in an Eastern Angles show! FAVORITE DIRECTOR YOU HAVE EVER WORKED WITH: David Duffey!! Oh and my dear darling Daddy! (Have to say that really incase he reads this ha ha!) WHAT WAS YOUR VERY FIRST SHOW?: Dunno. Probably playgroup nativity play! (If that counts!) HAVE YOU EVER HAD A DANCE SOLO? Loads of times with companies in Ippy! I just wish Melly-moo-cow/super b*tch (One of Savoy Singers choreographers) would stop being such a b*tch and give me a chance now! (She just seems to pick her main dancers outta thin air, they always the same people and she gives no-one else a chance!) HAVE YOU EVER HAD A SINGING SOLO? A few, Nothing major though - unless you count Scent-of-lillies in the Rose Of Persia production at Buxton! HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THE LAST PERSON TO TAKE A BOW? SOMETHING EMBARRASSING OR UNEXPECTED THAT HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE ON STAGE?: When I was about 6 I was playing one of 'Prince Ali's' servants in a church production of the panto 'Alladdin' and tripped on the steps on my second entrance. The jewels I was carrying went everywhere. But like a true pro I picked em up and carried on! EVER BEEN NAKED ONSTAGE?: No, but have been onstage in just a string bikini while at uni, which is pretty close to naked as it barely covered the essentials! HAVE YOU EVER BEEN KILLED ONSTAGE?: Loads of times! PLAYED A DRUNK?: Yes, infact I think one of my first 'adult roles' in a church play was as a drunk! he he! PLAYED SOMEONE HALF YOUR AGE?: Yeah, though in plays I have devised myself! PLAYED SOMEONE TWICE YOUR AGE?: Loads of times - sometimes more than twice my age. (See answer to fave role!) Yep in a uni devised performance called "Walkie Torquay". (It about a teenage lad who works as an entertainer in a hotel in Torquay who has got his girlfriend pregnant. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? No and no! lol 3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Well, let me think..........umm..............WELL ME OF COURSE!!! DUH! Plus one or two close friends also did. 4. Did anyone close to you die? Not people really close to me, but a few people I know did and was upsetting. 5. What countries did you visit? Just this one. 6. What would you like to have in 2G9 that you lacked in 2G8? dunno. 7. 4:16 pm	A quiz thing I nicked from Jonathan! 1. First Name: Sarah-Jane 2. Age: 23 3. Location: England. Origionally from Ipswich, Suffolk. Now living in Fleet Hampshire. 4. Occupation: Learning support assistant at a school in Basingstoke! (it is!) 5. Partner: Husband, Chris Hall! :) 6. Kids: Curently have one on the way that (all being well,) is due in December! :D WOOO!! 7. Brothers/Sisters: None of my own, but Now have a sister-in-law Roxanne. 8. Pets: none at the moment. :( 9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life: 9.1: Chris and I are exzpecting our first baby!! A pretty major thiing! 9.2: Getting used to being married - I love it! 9.3: Setting up a joint bank account for bills - flippin heck it's more complicated than I thought! 9.4 & 9.5: Baby 'peanut' again! he he (Though at the mo baby peanut is a very 'little' thing as is only about 12cm big! lol) 10. Where and for what did you go to school for?: Umm I went to 'SCHOOL' in Ipswich (sprinbgfield infants and juniors then westbourne High school) then to Stowmarket High school and went because I had to cos it was the law! (well apart from 6th form but I liked it!) But I guess with this being an American quiz it actually means 'university/college' so I went to Dartington College Of Arts in Devon to study Theatre. 11. Parents: My parents = David and Judy who live in Ipswich. In-Laws = Davis and Eileen who live in Sussex. 12. Who are some of your closest friends: My husband! Natalie, Ross and Cara. 13. Passions and hobbies: G&S, general theatre, ODL, Eastern Angles, Animals, Music and ......oh G&S!! 14. Appearance: umm.......look at my photo on here! Otherwise I quite thin but getting a very slight baby bump now! :D yey! 15. Summary of the last few years of my life: Last 3 years............. Last term at uni got anxiety stress - finished uni - was in a show and argued with the choreographer a lot - mooved in with Chris - Graduated - was in more shows - got pregnant - got a job - got married - found out I was pregnant - Did this quiz! 16. What I pride myself on: Actually managing to keep my temper with certain classes and pupils at school! 17. My flaws: I get stressed out and worried over the silliest things due to my anxiety stress! 1:31 pm	Some people get offended by such silly things! (Please comment if have time!) Yes and now is the time for me to confess the very silly thing that I am 'offended' by! (Well maybe not offended by but the thing that has just really really really really got my back up!) I know that I am the person who keeps getting all uptight and angry when people, especially on savoynet, take offence at two particular 'N-words' but in a way the thing that offended me last night is even siller, although I still say defensable. The thing that offended me was................The 'corsets' that were given out to the lady's chorus of Iolanthe last night at rehearsal!!!! Oh blimey they offend me on so many levels that I hardly know where to begin so I'll state my points in no particular order.......... # The 'items' that the ladies were given were not infact 'corsets' but mearly vests with lacing and boning! - Real corsets should have thick and/or extra stiff boning at the very front and at the back and you SHOULD NOT be able to concertina the boning in a real corset, especially the boning at the front and back! Those items were mearly 'corset tops' and will provide absolute minimum support at best no matter how much the ladies insist they make a difference! # 'Real corsets' are sized by waist measurement, not generic sizees (i.e. size 8) which should proove to anyone that these are not corsets but basques at best! # Further to that point, I understand that apart from the 'stance' point of view that these corsets are also so that the 'larger ladies' look less fat! Well I'm sorry to say that all that type of corset will do is accentuate any big roles of fat by neatly squishing them into lots of little roles of fat distributed about the figure unlike real corsets which squeeze all the fat in! # The director had no idea that the ladies would be given corsets untill last night and some of his coreography will feel quite different with a corset on! It will be ok for those who have the 'vests' that were given out last night, but some ladies (myself included) have propper steel boned corsets which will feel very different. I tried one of the moves in my corset this morning and nearly fell over because my balance was compleatly different! It's just downright dangerous especially for the older ladies!! (Though again I stress this is entirely NOT the directors fault as he had no idea of this untill last night and when I mentioned it to him was pretty put out and said he didn't see the point!) # Again - and especially for those of us with 'real corsets' the director and/or us ladies should have been told of this weeks in advance as we now have only 3 rehearsals to practice in the corsets and I don't think half the ladies actually realise what a heck of a difference it will make to the way they stand, move, and breathe! # Lastly, but maybe more importantly from an aesthetic point of view - If most of the ladies onstage have the monstrous excuses for corsets that were given out last night and a few of us have 'real corsets' (and I for one utterely refuse to wear those uncomfortable stupid things when I could have a real corset!) then the only aestetic effect acheived will be one of about 3 of the ladies wearing corsets (the three of us who have propper ones) and the rest of the ladies might as well not even bother! And this I know for a fact, cos though I wasn't in the show last year I know that the ladies in that show were all wearing 'corsets' (as I had been to rehearsals) and my friend remarked that it was strange that only a few of the ladies were wearing corsets and why weren't the rest! She couldn't believe it when I told her that they apparently all were! GRR ok long rant over! Umm don't have any scars though do have a slight bump on my right middle finger where i got a cactus needle stuck in it years ago. 2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM? Not a lot on the walls in our room here as Chris isn't really into that sorta stuff, but at my parents my room walls are covered in different posters and pics. 4. WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO? Most stuff. Currently listening to G&S, the spinners (english folk group) and my sweent todd soundtrack. But have got loadsa different types of music that I like to listen too. 5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN? Pass - even my birth certificate can't tell me! 6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW? Right at this minute? For Chris to get home from work and for the ruddy Halifax to send me that drated statement that I need for my CRB!! 7. WHAT DO YOU MISS? Lots of stuff! Well I don't normally get excited about the coming of a new year but I must admit, when the clock struck midnight this time around I couldn't help but excitedly scream "CHRIS AND I ARE GETTING MARRIED *THIS YEAR*" It just sounds so good to actually be able to say *this year* and it now seems so much closer than it did even a few days ago! Ok so I've just found out that the Arts Council Bastards have given Eastern Angles Theatre company (my fave company and a big part of suffolk life) notice that their funds will be cut by 50% ( http://www.easternangles.co.uk/press_releases.html ) How Bloody dare they!! Eastern Angles always perform great family shows that sell out year on year and their Christmas shows are a big part of the Christams celebrations for many families around Ipswich. It is a type of professional community theatre that I have not seen anywhere else and I just find it appallinng that they can give more money to 'The Wolsey' and 'The Regent' and yet cut money to EA!! Sorry to rant but I am just sooo pissed off atm as I just can't see any justification at all for this deciscion! I'm fed up of hearing comments like 'We were at a cabaret club and didn't enjoy it because someone was talking all the way through and shouting stuff out at the stage!" Don't people realise that that is the exact sort of behaviour that, within reason, is expected at a cabaret? A concert would be an entirely different matter of course, and I would be the first to shut up anyone who was talking during a performance, but at a cabaret ........................... LIGHTEN UP!!!! 2:48 pm	Apparently I'm not allowed a life!! (I warn you it's a moan but need support here!) I swear if I wasn't so near to actually graduating I would just quit uni right now and never come back! And before anyone says I would regret it, I honestly don't think I would - I'd rather live my life thankyou very much!! I am just soo pissed off with not only my lecturers but now my group stating that I am in the wrong for wanting a life outside of uni. It all started with my lecturers getting in a stress by changing the date of our performances so it clashed with the week of Nats wedding which I am singing at. That is [hopefully] more or less sorted now but I now have other problems that are really frustrating me!! On friday I specifically told my group that I could not make this monday (BANK HOLIDAY) for a rehearsal as Chris was round, but was prepared to come to a rehearsal in the MORNING if I was needed. Nothing was said that day so I assumed that we were not rehearsing then. However, on Sat evening I got a text saying that we were meeting MONDAY AT 2.00 IN THE AFTERNOON!!!! I said I couldn't make it and explained that I had asked them on the friday but had been given no response so had now booked something to do - my group were not happy but I know I was in the right! Today, when we were discussing stuff I mentioned that my parents and my Nanna H were coming to visit next BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND and so I would not be free all the time but I did say I had told them I may not be free on the monday! My group basically told me that it was tough and that if we needed to rehearse that weekend then we would rehearse and I would have to not see my family!! I feel this is really unfair as one guy in our group constantly turns up late to rehearsals without a valid excuse and not much seems to be said to him but everyone moans at me, and tells me I'm not dedicated to the group, when I tell them all my dates in advance, am prepared to make comprimises, and have given up soo much in order to make all the rehearsals! I WAS even prepeared to not sing in a concert that I am in in a couple of weeks, but now I don't think I will!! The group are even talking about drawing up a contract for us all to sign, but I am going to read it through very thoroughly (one of the other members is writing it out so it not a group decision on the wording) to make sure that it does allow me to have a life - after all, I was 100% honest about my commitments when I joined the group, so if they don't like it they should have said so at the initial meeting. If I don't agree with the wording then I will not sign it and I don't care how many arguments it causes - I am prepared to compromise, but I thought that contracts and rehearsals were meant to be negotiated (at least that it what our tutors said) and not dictated!! Maybe I am a bit in the wrong/stubborn but I am sorry, I have been as honest as I can and have been prepared to make many sacrifices for the sake of the performance, but I do want a life and I do want to see my family when they have travelled all this way especially to see me!!!! 9:24 am	ONE YEAR TO GO!!!!!!!!!! Yes it's just one year to go untill my marriage to Chris......................I CAN'T WAIT!!! Chris is ssooo romantic as he bought me a really cool anniversary card (having written -1 on it!) and also got me a 'Thumping foot thumper' that I had been hankering after at easter! I got him a couple of magnets, one saying "Just thinking of you makes me smile" and the other saying "Love is not finding someone to live with - it's finding someone you can't live without" and I also made him a special card with stuff from my craft box! We couldn'r wait to give eachother our presents so did it at about midnight before we went to bed! I woke up this morning and just felt so happy and excited and also so lucky, as this time next year I will be marrying the most wonderful, gorgeous man in the world!! (I noticed this morning that he is just starting to get faint hints of a 6-pac..........MMMMMMMMMMMMMM) Unfortunatly he is at work today (though he didn't leave until late, he he) but he's gonna try to get away early and take me out somewhere this evening!! 3:57 pm	It's instrumental!! Ok so last week my mate Deanna told me she was selling her oboe and .......... well anyone who knows me will know what's coming next........ I bought it!! £130........WHAT A BARGAIN!!! It seems to be a wooden one and needs a little bit of work, (some of the pads need a bit of re-corking and re-plating, but there don't seem to be any air leaks yet!) but I'm soo excited about it and havent stopped playing it - I have managed to graduate from the 'strangeld cat' sound to something approaching listenable to - although it's really difficult to sustain a reasonale tone, but I am teaching myself after all! I have also invested in a fingering chart and a couple of new medium-soft reeds from music world! Lets see the total I own now is...... That I can play..... Flutes - 3 C flutes and 1 Alto flute Piccolo Recorders - klein sop, sopranino, descant, treble, tenor Clarinet Saxophones - tenor, alto, sop Ocarinas - 1 in D and 1 in G Penny whistles That I am 'learing/can't play Oboe Keyboard Guitar Djembe Piano-accordian Various ethenic flutes Fife Mrimba Balalika (or however you spell the name of that rusian guitar thing!) .........Oh and I sing too! Thats roughly 22 Instrunments - hey 1 for each year of my age!!!(counting ethnic instruments as 1 and ocarinas, and c flutes as 1) - hmm, maybe it's too many/enough - NAH!! The question is what instrument can I hanker for next? (I already want a bassoon and a harp, but I usually have at least 3 on my 'I want one' list!) 11:15 pm	First night sucess! Well thats the first night of Trial and Pinafore over with and it seemed to go quite well. Not sure what some of the audiece made of the updated setting for trial, but they seemed to love pinafore as there was loads of applause at the end! My costumes are a mixed bunch....... Flourecent orange mini-skirt and green and blue striped vest top and black knee length boots for trial, and a black and white floor length dress and a gigantic hat for pinafore!! I love my trial costume (well I did pick it and buy it myself!) but my Pinafore costume, although it looks good, feels terrible and it took about a packet of hairgrips, two hat pins and half a ton of hairspray to keep the hat on!! Ah well, only another 4 performances to go now! On another note, Ipswich's ex lead soprano Julie who is now a professional opera singer was in the audience tonight and loved it. I had a chat with her after the show and there is a possibility I may be able to get her to sing at my wedding!!! WOOOOO!!!! Current Mood: excited (Comment on this)

I enjoyed it so much, especially as this year was extra special as it was at the same event last year when Chris and I got together!!! :) Anyway, my 'review' of the event can be found on my other blog at http://madquitemad.blogspot.com along with a list of who did what in the gender reversal game!! There were loads of stands and so much information to take in that I was quite overwhelmed.......thankgoodness mum was there to collect all the leaflets and ask all the questions!! Everything was soo pricey though....£400 for a photographer!!!!......whatever!!!! Anyways I still LOVED IT as there were LOADS OF FREEBIES such as, nail varnish and facials, not to mention the CHOCOLATE FOUNTAINS!!!
